I'm Glad I'm Me Poems

Inspired by Phil Bosta

This term we are not only celebrating our successes, we are also celebrating who we are. We have read the poem I'm Glad I'm Me written by Phil Bosta and written our own poems using his recipe. We have chosen the way we have presented our writing.

A Modern Day Legend

As a part of our myths and legends learning, we have modernised the traditional legend about Tutanekai and Hinemoa. We wrote our own legends first and then we wrote lyrics to the How Bizarre music written by Pauly Fuemana (OMC) accompany our stories. The following video clip is just a snippet of two of our songs.

Marae Memoirs

Te Marae

"Are we there yet?"
"NO!" Grumbled Dad. What seemed like an hour and a half, really was only a few minutes.Time just dragged on.
"Are we almost there yet." I asked in a quiet and timid voice.
"Not yet" Dad muttered under his breath.

As we cruised through the amazing scenery, I was struck by its beauty. I quickly shouted "STOP!" I wanted to get a glimpse of the dandelions and wild flowers sparkling with a touch of dew, in the sunlight. Everyone asks, "What are you looking at?" I didn't reply straight away, as I felt special to be able to see such a magnificent sight; it took me away on a stunning day dream. As I drifted away, everyone began yelling at me, snapping me out of it. We got back in the car and I couldn't forget that stunning moment.

After a while, we arrived at the marae, I saw the manuhiri standing at the gate. Silently, I waited for my cousins to come and play. What seemed like an hour and half, really was only a few minutes. Time just dragged by.

We Play Hard!

This week we will be describing how we play hard in a sport we play using a model written by Kiwi author, Patricia Grace.

WALTs:
·       How to write a listing sentence that has strong verbs.
·       How to punctuate using commas.
·       How to punctuate using a semi colon.

I can't wait  to get on the court and get stuck  into the game; I really get into  it. I watch the ball  and chase  it all over the court. Where  the ball goes, I go after it. I shoot, dart, defend, pass, sprint, everything. Sometimes it's  cold and slippery, when  I fall  down on the  freezing  concrete  I feel great because all  that  shows is I've made a game of it. The hotter I get, the better I feel because I don't want to miss out on anything. I feel cheerful because  we win often, but not always.

I can't wait to get on the court to score some goals. I go my hardest. I take notice of the ball and follow it. Where the ball goes I go. I sweep, push, dribble, aim, flick everything! I do everything I can and I feel awesome! Sometimes  it's cold and slippery so when I slip then come up dull I feel proud, because the mud shows I've made a game of it. The dirtier I get the better I feel. I like it because I don't want to miss out on a thing.

Winter

Room 11 has been learning how to use metaphors to paint a picture of winter.

Queen of Ice

The snow trickles down forming a white blanket.
The queen of ice exhales
freezing puddles and forming crystals,
clear icicles on the roofs of the houses.
The queen of ice whispers "winter is here."

As her glassy glass slippers walk along the grass
leaving unforgettable foot steps.
She creates diamonds on the windows that sparkle like the stars in the sky.
the dew on the webs shimmer and sparkle in the sunlight.

''Frost'' she demands
Trees are no longer green,
A thick glassy coat of ice covers the grass.

''Snow'' she announces
The mist coates the windows
hard to see in the frostiness.

''Summer'' she fears
A mysterious cloud takes over the land.

The trees stand naked and bare,
the queen exhales covering the branches in white clouds of ice.

Triumphantly she leaves us to freeze.

Princess of Ice

The princess, of snow breathes,
snowing the puddles,
forming icicles on the cold roof of the castle.
It's winter again

Her blue glittering coat slides as she walks  Making a light, soft breeze .
''Frost ! '' she  cries.
The grass becomes coated in an icey melted layer

''Ice!'' she  orders.
Frozen flakes fill the dark night sky.
They casade down in icey showers

''Fog!'' she sings.
A mysterious cloud fills the kingdom

Trees no longer green and full
but cold, grey  and bare.
Saddly she leaves us to shiver

Author: Keira

King of Frost

The king of frost exhales
the icy water forming crystals and diamonds on the freezing house roofs.

His blue, sparking grown rustles as he walks like the king of frost.
Making a strong, bitter air
his voice blares creepily.

"frost" he says.
The grass becomes coated in a glassy frosty layer.

"Frost" he yells
frozen pellets fill the sky
they cascade down in frosty showers.

"Blackness" he shouts
a mysterious creature suddenly fills the land.
Trees no longer green, beautiful full and vibrant
but black and bare .

Triumphantly he leaves us,
fading
the king of frost.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost exhales
Spreading hypothermia to everyone
Forming icicles on the rigid blades of grass.
Its Winter again.

"Frost" he yells
the grass becomes coated in a frozen melting layer.

"Snow" he cries
frozen blankets fill the sky
They cascade down in winter sleet.

"Darkness" he sings
A mysterious  blanket smothers the land.

Trees no longer green, full and bright,
but grey and bare

Bio-Poems- It's all about us.

We have been getting know each other again. This week we wrote a bio-poem about a buddy and then one about ourselves. We could also choose from our buddies bio-poem poem too.

Character Traits

Our story books are in the planning stages, we have been learning about how to create our characters to help tell the story. As a part of our learning we needed to decide what character traits we have. We used the TagCloud app to publish our ideas.

Writer's Theatre, Free-styling

This week we "free-styled" in writing, we chose the genre (style) and what we wanted to write about. We are excited to share our first writer's theatre where we chose a group member's piece of writing to record. We had no props to work with so we needed to use our voices to make it interesting and hook our listeners in.

  1. The explanation writing is great and you explained what to do on a detailed sentence .I'm going to give you a example of a detailed sentence . The 4 kids hungrily biked to subway so they can buy a crunchy , salad bun and they said'' yummy , lets go and have a orange juice so it can refresh our mouths ''.
