WALHTs:
- understand our history has shaped the New Zealand we are today
- understand why we need a treaty
- understand our responsibilities when living in a community-responsbilities, contributions and respect.
Your Mission:
Room 10 needs a modern day treaty. In your learnings groups, you will need to create a treaty, act out the signing and video it.
You will need to think about:
- What is a treaty?
- Why was the treaty formed?
- What were the positive aspects of the treaty?
- What could have been done differently?
- Why do we need a treaty?
- Who are the treaty partners?
What is a treaty?
Use the link below to help you understand what a treaty is. Record your notes and learning using the document in Google Classrooms.

What happened?
Create a time line, recording the history of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. You must use at least three different sources to create your time line and credit these. Use the Google doc to record your notes and learning. Your group will need to decide how you are going to show case your learning.

What were the positive aspects and the "pitfalls" of the Treaty?
Use the links above and the resources in the classroom to identify the positive and negative aspects of the Treaty of Waitangi. What would you change if you had been there in 1840?
Use the Google doc to record the positive and negative aspects of the treaty and what you think needed to change. Remember to explain why your group thinks this way.

Now it's time to create your treaty. Revisit all of your learning and decide what needs to be changed, what needs to stay and what needs to be included for modern day New Zealand and Room 10. Draft your treaty into the google doc, when you have finished, Mrs T will conference with you before you start planning your video.
